The One That I Want by Sandy Barker

The One That I Want is simply the friends to lovers trope packaged with bad communication. Has this trope been written well? I think not. It is drab and boring and I feel so bad for the matchmaker, Poppy. The only redeemable character in this book. Greta, unlucky with love, is the main focus of the story. She is getting older and she wants a real kind of love. Somehow, her work gets roped into her shenanigans and soon she is off having dates with men who she doesn’t even like. When she does finally get somewhere with someone she actually would like to spend time with it almost like she wants to sabotage her happiness for her stupidity. I just feel sorry for how much effort Poppy had to make and even then it mainly went to waste. I really hoped that  I would enjoy this book as I enjoyed Poppy and Tristan’s story but the story and writing really fell short. It took me numerous times of picking up the book and putting it down again to get through. Honestly, I kind of wished that I DNF...

Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston

It’s been a while since I’ve really enjoyed a romance book but I have found that Ashley Poston, Queen that she forever will be, has got me out of that rut. This time with her newest work, Sounds Like Love. If I’m being honest I wasn’t so sure at first whether I would like the concept of someone listening into your thoughts. But the more that I read on, I changed my mind. By the way that it was written and handled was perfect. It gave that fantasy element but still grounded in that sense of reality. I should have never doubted the process after all!  Sounds Like Love follows two main characters, Sebastian and Joni. Both in the music industry and both experiencing a difficult period in their lives, be it personal or professional. At first, I was not sure how the two MCs who gel, but the fantasy element of the book really helped drive their relationship. It kind of reminded me of that film with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, Music and Lyrics. But better.  There aren’t really any ...

Just Friends by Holly McCulloch

I would have to say one of the main cliché's of rom-coms is the traditional friend-zone, which the book shown above falls into this category. It's familiar for the reader, it's entertaining and more often than not, it gives us something all to invest in for those few painfully silent hours at home alone. Particularly, this book ticks all the boxes as what is described as a entertaining rom-com read. They both somehow have come to have the feels for each other, they hide it because they believe that they are not good enough for the other person and all of a sudden one decides they want a change of location (very Bridget Jones if you ask me).   But weirdly I have somehow grown attached to both characters, Bea and Peter. Bea, who is at that stage where she feels like she has to prove to society that she can go and date people and maybe end up in a well-meaning relationship (although the scenes that had boilerman Colin always made me cringe. All I can say is the word, Chick...

Conditional Love by Cathy Bramley

So hi. Sorry for such a huge period of time where i was absent. There are several reasons as to why that is, personal as well as other big points. Anyway, i'm back and hopefully that means that i will be back for a while, before i may be noticeably absent once again. Today i have a nice book to come back to this blog. It is called 'Conditional Love' and written by an author from Nottinghamshire called Cathy Bramley. As you can see the awful picture that i took of this book doesn't really show the homely beauty of the book cover in person. The illustration really identifies what the story is all about - a woman with the aim of getting her dream home. It really shows this with the fact that there is a light on downstairs in the house, a warm hearth. So because of the fact that somehow i have "connections" with this author, she was very kind in sending various amount of goodies back last year. This included this book, as a signed copy, as well as other ...

P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

Hi again. This time it's all about Jenny Han. So lets just cut to the chase then! This time it's P.S I Still Love You , this book has clearly been stated that it is one half of a two-part serial. This is because it is meant to be 'two-halves of a heart' which if left to me, is actually a pretty good concept - rather than dragging something out for the sake of it. ' Lara Jean didn’t expect to really fall for Peter. She and Peter were just pretending. Except suddenly they weren’t. Now Lara Jean is more confused than ever. When another boy from her past returns to her life, Lara Jean’s feelings for him return too. Can a girl be in love with two boys at once?' - Extract from Goodreads So when it comes to romance and stuff like that, we always know that at some point there are going to be some very much cringe-worthy moments, but also some really treasurable moments as well. This definitely speaks for itself when it is in the young adult genre - not that i h...

Frostfire by Amanda Hocking

It is back to Amanda Hocking this week, with her new book that I have recently been talking about, when reviewing her other series, the Trylle Trilogy. Although, this book is now in a new series, but set in the same universe. It is called the Kanin Chronicles... I must admit, when actually owning the book, the cover is very enchanting and beautiful. How for instance, the main character and protagonist, Bryn Aven, is at the centre of attention, with her coat covered in red. Whereas in the background, it is very muted colours, with the whites and blacks, but also having a sort of wonderland type of presence. Red to me also makes me feel quite uncomfortable and moreover is a colour for danger. So, onto the criticisms then! First of all, I don't know why but I felt a little bit out of place with this new world. Maybe it is because I read the other series in the same universe, I may have gotten used to them far too much. So when there are old characters appearing and being ment...

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Hi guys. This week its all about fairy tales. Everyone who was younger loved the concept of being read a good fairy-tale. This one is slightly different. With the original Grimm fairy-tale as the starting point, Cinderella is taken into a dystopian future. Where both the plague and discrimination run rife. But also with the consequences after a deadly post-war world.   When I first bought this book, I guess that I was hypocritical. The concept of using our favourite princess tale, has not indeed had only one makeover. It is in a constant state to be adapted to something else, in many media forms. I think that I just had about enough with it.   But, when I first read the starting chapter, my anxieties and annoyance flushed away in an instant. This is not a normal fairy-tale. It appeals to an older audience, which can sometimes be so vexing in situations like, Disney. It is a perfect Young Adult book, and I am thankful that it has been interpreted for a wider audie...

Stake-Out by Lily Luchesi

Hi guys! We all know what the post is about this week. Last week I revealed to you the cover of Lily Luchesi's upcoming book. And there is no surprise to tell you that I will be reviewing it for you today. So first of all, I want to remind you of what I have shown you last week: The book itself consists of around 100 pages -- pretty short and sweet. I kind of liked it this way. Sometimes I find vampires very hard going and having it in a "never-ending" sort of book, really can take a toll. It was snappy in a way that gets to the point, which is brilliant compared to those books are "padded" out for the sake of it. I like the idea where there is more than vampires. It focuses on a wide range of paranormal creatures, which have been weaved together effortlessly, into the story. Rather than placing all of them in the background to set the stage. It demonstrates the skill of being able to personify more than one character. Everyone has their indivi...

Cover Reveal - Stake-Out by Lily Luchesi

I have the pleasure to show you the cover for the upcoming paranormal romance novel. Enter now, Stake-out by Lily Luchesi...  Stake-Out, is Lily Luchesi's first book in the paranormal detective series.   This is the cover reveal for the book which will be released on May 19th by Vamptasy Publishing.   As you can see this cover is very intriguing. Personally, I like the colours that it actually has. It reminds me of a high in demand book that you may find on the Goodreads giveaways. (Well nothing beats a good Goodreads giveway!)   The words used on the cover 'In a city overrun with the undead an ex cop is given a chance to get revenge'. This is very exciting. I love the prospect of paranormal genres, which suggest on the front of the main character which is trying to seek redemption. It is kind of thrilling as well as comforting at the same moment - in an odd sort of way!   I've always been a sucker for the paranormal genre. I think ...

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

I did enjoy this. I hope there will be a film adaptation in the near future. As there was quite a few themes that I was able to sink my teeth into. Truly marvellous! The work of the week would have to be: kakorrhaphiophobia = meaning the fear of failure. To be honest I think I would fear failing to pronounce this word properly -- its far too long!  Pages: 328 Year of Publish: April 2012 Genre: Young Adult, Romance A big red girl moves into the neighbourhood, with her family which consists of a herd of younger siblings (she being the oldest out of the lot). This is where school fits in, with moving into a new house, also involves a new school, friends and a lot of bullies. When she enters the school bus for the first time, it becomes clear that all of the designated seats have been taken -- all accept one. A seat placed next to the only Asian kid on the bus, Park. Eventually by lots of small conversations and heap of mix tapes as well as comics, they fall in love as tw...

Literally a Fangirl

I'm so excited to talk you about this piece of fiction. Literally it is just a masterpiece!     Genre: Contemporary, Romance Year Of Publish: 2013 (US), 2014 (UK) Publisher: St Martin's Press (US), Pan Macmillian (UK)    I have found that throughout the whole of this book, the main character Cath has a lot of characteristics that i can relate to. She's antisocial, a fangirl(a bit obvious), scared of the real world and prefers the imaginary world of literature compared to reality. The whole time i couldn't stop reading wanting to find out more(which is kind of bad when i have tons of essays to finish). What is a ll about? Well, the basis of the story is that Cath is going to university, but she prefers to write fanfics of Simon Snow and Baz. They are kind of an imaginary fandom, which i heard from somewhere that Rainbow Rowell is eventually going to write books about them. So that will be quite interesting. But many have said that Simon Snow is v...

The Fabulous Kiera Cass's Books!

Hey! I'm Kiki and my main objective for this blog is to go through with you, the reader, the books I am reading- as well as giving those tough old criticisms. Of course, if you have already scrutinised this blog quite a lot already, you would already know that this is true. So far I have read 20 books during this year. Yeah, I know not as much as the book tubers which on average they read 100 each year. But I'm not perfect- I'm only human! So who will be my first victim I see? I'm only joking! The first author who will be under my scrutiny will be the delightful and funny Kiera Cass with her entries including The Selection, The Elite and The One. Here we go... Genre : Dystopian Romance The Selection!- 3 stars The Criticisms! Throughout the whole of this book there was little going on. Probably because of the fact that there is two more books afterwards, and Kiera is trying to prolong the time when the action actually does happen, which is probably so then...
