It’s been a while since I’ve really enjoyed a romance book but I have found that Ashley Poston, Queen that she forever will be, has got me out of that rut. This time with her newest work, Sounds Like Love.
If I’m being honest I wasn’t so sure at first whether I would like the concept of someone listening into your thoughts. But the more that I read on, I changed my mind. By the way that it was written and handled was perfect. It gave that fantasy element but still grounded in that sense of reality. I should have never doubted the process after all!
Sounds Like Love follows two main characters, Sebastian and Joni. Both in the music industry and both experiencing a difficult period in their lives, be it personal or professional. At first, I was not sure how the two MCs who gel, but the fantasy element of the book really helped drive their relationship. It kind of reminded me of that film with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, Music and Lyrics. But better.
There aren’t really any villains in this piece. It is more about the power you put on yourself and the thought process that comes with that. It is more realistic in that sense as we all go through it at some point in our lives. However, it is important to mention that there are trigger warnings about terminal illness so please take note if this is something that would affect you.
Did I enjoy the book? Yeah. Would I read the book again? Absolutely… well if I had enough time (the TBR is looking incredibly high at the moment). But yes, I would definitely have to rate the book a well deserved 5 stars. Sounds Like Love reminded me of holidays on the beach, looking out to the ocean with an ice cream in hand. The feeling of pure holiday bliss but that thought in the back of your mind that tells you eventually reality takes over. But it is better to have had that break than not have it.
