REVIEW
We always seem to find a constant rush towards Christmas Day. Whether that is getting last minute presents and cards; seeing and giving presents to family members all over the place; getting that roast turkey in the oven overnight; spending time to charitable causes in the local community or settling the young children and warning them that Santa is on his way. But sometimes we forget that in order to experience the true Christmas magic, we use what we have to bring kindness to strangers and vice versa.
Johnson's Christmas story is a wonderful tale which truly expresses how much joy we can all have if we open up to people and spread happiness by taking part in life, rather than just the concept of gift-giving. But not only this, Johnson gives valuable life lessons of what it means to live, rather than just survive and sometimes it is better to take a leap of faith, rather than wait on the side-lines.
'A ship in the harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for'.
This book is not just a Christmas book, but rather a book which highlights the importance of life. This is one of the main themes of the book and how sometimes we play it safe in order for nothing to hurt us. But surely this is not only boring but not a good quality of life itself?
The characters are a lovely bunch and shows how people of so many walks of life can come together for the most wonderful time of the year. That even a little kindness can go a long way even if you don’t know someone very well, compassion is one of the only true things which shine through.
There are moments of heartbreak, but this is outweighed by the true spectacle of what the real meaning of Christmas is all about.
